Breast cancer survival and season of surgery: an ecological open cohort study by Dorthe Teilum, Karsten D Bjerre, Anne M Tjønneland, Niels Kroman

    Published 2012-01-01
“…Background Vitamin D has been suggested to influence the incidence and prognosis of breast cancer, and studies have found better overall survival (OS) after diagnosis for breast cancer in summer–autumn, where the vitamin D level are expected to be highest. Objective To compare the prognostic outcome for early breast cancer patients operated at different seasons of the year.Design Open population-based cohort study.Setting Danish women operated 1978–2010.Cases 79 658 adjusted for age at surgery, period of surgery, tumour size, axillary lymph node status and hormone receptor status.Statistical analysis The association between OS and season of surgery was analysed by Cox proportional hazards regression models, at survival periods 0–1, 0–2, 0–5 and 0–10 years after surgery. …”

The Immunotherapeutic Effect of SIRPα-Silenced DCs against Cervical Cancer by Xiaojie Li, Wenying Zhou, Yanlan Liang, Changzhi Xu, Zhizhi Xie, Jiayin Liang, Bo Hu

    Published 2020-01-01
“…The SIRPα knockdown in DCs that were pulsed with a modified HPV16E7 (HPV16mE7) protein with enhanced antigenicity and reduced transformation activity results in increased cytokine (TNF-α/IL-12/IL-6) secretion, IFN-γ secretion by T lymphocytes, and in vitro/in vivo tumoricidal activity against cervical cancer cells. Taken together, these results suggest that SIRPα-silenced DC vaccination presented potential therapeutic implications against cervical cancer.…”

New Players for Advanced Prostate Cancer and the Rationalisation of Insulin-Sensitising Medication by Jennifer H. Gunter, Phoebe L. Sarkar, Amy A. Lubik, Colleen C. Nelson

    Published 2013-01-01
“…Obesity and type 2 diabetes are recognised risk factors for the development of some cancers and, increasingly, predict more aggressive disease, treatment failure, and cancer-specific mortality. …”

Utilizing Cytokines to Function-Enable Human NK Cells for the Immunotherapy of Cancer by Rizwan Romee, Jeffrey W. Leong, Todd A. Fehniger

    Published 2014-01-01
“…This activation results in long lived NK cells that exhibit enhanced functionality when they encounter a secondary stimulation and provides a new approach to enable NK cells for enhanced responsiveness to infection and cancer. An improved understanding of the cellular and molecular aspects of cytokine-cytokine receptor signals has led to a resurgence of interest in the clinical use of cytokines that sustain and/or activate NK cell antitumor potential. …”
