The influence of farm connectedness on foot‐and‐mouth disease outbreaks in livestock
Published 2024-12-01“…The objectives were to (1) determine the impact of connectivity of the initially infected farm on the size of FMD outbreaks in four counties of differing connectivity; (2) compare FMD spread in counties that have different mean farm connectivity levels over all farms in the county; and (3) determine how connectivity relationships affect an example control measure. We used a spatially explicit stochastic model to simulate FMD outbreaks on livestock farm operations in four UK counties. …”

Care Burden and Coping Strategies among Caregivers of Paediatric HIV/AIDS in Northern Uganda: A Cross-Sectional Mixed-Method Study
Published 2021-01-01“…This places an enormous demand and care burden on the caregivers who often struggle to cope in various ways, some of which may be maladaptive. This may adversely affect their quality of care. Very little literature exists in resource-limited contexts on the burden of care experienced by caregivers on whom children living with HIV/AIDS depend for their long-term care. …”

Do current maternal health staffing and bed occupancy benchmarks work in practice? Results from a simulation model
Published 2024-05-01“…Where over-capacity occurs, it is generally smaller, basic EmOCs (BEmOCs) that are affected. In contrast, capacity in terms of staffing (skilled birth attendants:women in labour ratio) is exceeded almost 50% of the time in larger Comprehensive EmOCs (CEmOCs).Conclusions Our findings suggest that increasing staffing levels of CEmOCs while maintaining fewer small BEmOCs may improve quality of care (by increasing the staff-to-patient ratio for the most frequently used facilities), provided that timely access to EmOCs for all women can still be guaranteed. …”

Emissions of Nitrous Oxide and Nitric Oxide from Soils of Native and Exotic Ecosystems of the Amazon and Cerrado Regions of Brazil
Published 2001-01-01“…Tropical forests and savannas are important sources of atmospheric N2O and NO, but rapid land use change could be affecting these soil emissions of N oxide gases. The five published estimates for annual emissions of N2O from soils of mature Amazonian forests are remarkably consistent, ranging from 1.4 to 2.4 kg N ha–1 year–1, with a mean of 2.0 kg N ha–1 year–1. …”

Quality of life among Indonesian family caregivers caring for dependent older persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the community: A cross-sectional, correlational study
Published 2025-01-01“…However, caregiving can be complex and challenging, often negatively affecting caregivers' quality of life (QoL). Objective: This study aimed to develop and test a hypothesized causal model of QoL among Indonesian family caregivers who care for dependent older persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in 2024. …”

Experimental investigation on the seismic resistance of RC columns after acid rain corrosion
Published 2025-01-01“…However, studies on the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) columns affected by acid rain corrosion remain nascent. Therefore, this study explored the impact of acid-rain corrosion extent and axial compression ratio on the seismic behavior of RC columns that experienced flexural failure using an artificial rapid corrosion method and pseudo-static test in sequence. …”

Investigating the role of cathepsins in breast cancer progression: a Mendelian randomization study
Published 2025-01-01“…Furthermore, we conducted MR analysis using eQTL data to investigate how gene expression, mediated by cathepsins, affects the occurrence of different types of breast cancer and assessed the regulatory effects of cathepsins.ResultsMR analysis revealed that increased levels of cathepsin E are associated with a greater risk of malignant breast tumors (IVW: p = 0.006, OR = 1.103, 95% CI = 1.028–1.184), and increased levels of cathepsin F are associated with an increased risk of in situ breast cancer (IVW: p = 0.031, OR = 1.190, 95% CI = 1.016–1.394). …”
