The Chinese State, Incomplete Proletarianization and Structures of Inequality in Two Epochs
Published 2011-01-01“…The Chinese household registration system (hukou) has played a pivotal role in the “regulation” of the formation of the working class under conditions of free and unfree markets, in ways that invite comparison with the Act of Settlement in England prior to the era of the Speenhamland system, which hindered the movement of rural labor.5 The hukou regime has imposed conditions of severe inequality on migrants and their families, initially in the years 1960 to the late 1970s when rural to urban migration and market activity were virtually foreclosed, but also in the subsequent era when the state encouraged migration and market activity, while maintaining differential access to education, health care, retirement pensions etc., distinguishing those “sojourning” in the cities from those with full urban citizen rights on the basis of hukou.6Less studied, but equally important, in our view, is the interrelationship between inequality, on the one hand, and savings and underconsumption, on the other. …”

Impact of protein intake from a caloric-restricted diet on liver lipid metabolism in overweight and obese rats of different sexes
Published 2025-01-01“…Moreover, the trend of expression in the signaling pathways of adiponectin/phosphorylated AMP-activated protein kinase (p-AMPK) and adiponectin/peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) in the liver was consistent with that of the liver fat content, and leptin acted in the same way as adiponectin. Compared with the three calorie-restricted groups, the expressions of nuclear sterol-regulatory element-binding protein-2 (nSREBP-2) and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase (HMG-CoA reductase) involved in cholesterol synthesis and low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) and cholesterol 7-alpha hydroxylase (CYP7A1) involved in cholesterol clearance in the MC group were significantly lower (P < 0.05). …”

A comprehensive, population level evaluation of previously reported drug triggers of pemphigus highlights immunomodulatory capacity as a common characteristic
Published 2025-01-01“…The significant associations reported here provide empirical support for the hypothesis that certain drugs act as triggers for PV. Moreover, all of the drugs found to be associated with PV in this study harbor immunomodulatory capacity, suggesting that the ability to induce such perturbations, directly or indirectly, may be a critical factor connecting drug exposure to pemphigus pathogenesis. …”
