Long-term spatiotemporal features of aerosol optical characteristics and relative humidity in China’s offshore areas
Published 2025-01-01“…This paper addresses this issue by analyzing the spatiotemporal variations of aerosols in China’s offshore waters from 2007 to 2022 using Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO) and European Centre of Medium-range Weather Forecasts Reanalysis v.5 (ERA5) data. The results show that in the sea area, the aerosol backscatter coefficient at 532 nm and extinction coefficient at 532 nm increase with increasing RH; the aerosol depolarization ratio decreases with increasing RH. …”

Unveiling the effects of post-monsoon agricultural biomass burning on aerosols, clouds, and radiation in Northwest India
Published 2025-02-01“…In this study, we aim to address this research gap by analyzing fire, meteorological parameters, aerosol, cloud, and radiation data spanning nearly two decades (2002–2021), obtained from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard the Aqua satellite, Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis Research and Applications, Version 2 (MERRA-2), and the Fifth Generation of European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) Reanalysis (ERA5). Our analysis reveals a notable increase in agricultural biomass burning intensity in Northwest India over the past two decades, contributing significantly to air quality degradation. …”

The Impact of the Urban Heat Island Effect on Ground-Level Ozone Pollution in the Sichuan Basin, China
Published 2024-12-01“…Atmospheric pollution data for O3 and NO2 from 2020 were obtained from local environmental monitoring stations, while temperature and single-layer wind field data were sourced from ERA5-Land, a high-resolution atmospheric reanalysis dataset provided by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). The results indicate the following: (1) O3 concentrations in the Sichuan Basin exhibit distinct seasonal variations, with the highest levels in spring, followed by summer and autumn, and the lowest in winter. …”

Surrogate-based model parameter optimization in simulations of the West African monsoon
Published 2025-01-01“…As reference data, Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM IMERG) mission are used for precipitation, and the ERA5 reanalysis data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts are used for all other quantities. The multi-objective optimization problems are tackled through two strategies: (1) assignment of weights with uncertainties to the objectives based on expert opinion and (2) variation in these weights in order to assess their influence on the optimal values of the uncertain model parameters. …”
