The Chinese State, Incomplete Proletarianization and Structures of Inequality in Two Epochs
Published 2011-01-01“…We locate the discussion in relation to theories of original accumulation, proletarianization, wage stagnation, and low consumption in the emerging capitalist world economy of which China has been a part since the 1970s.2 We hope to add to that discussion by exploring a range of structures that have produced incomplete proletarianization and inequality during two periods of socialist transition (1950s to 1970) and capitalist transition (1970s to present).Following three decades during which China experienced the world’s most rapid growth, and in which billionaires emerged at a record rate in 2010, hundreds of millions of urban laborers, particularly the more than one hundred million migrant laborers, continue to receive not only a low but even a relatively declining share of the gross domestic product, leaving many at subsistence levels, with meager welfare benefits and bereft of basic citizenship rights.3 We use the term “laborers” to highlight the conditions of the laboring poor—rural migrant workers (nongmingong), farmers, the urban underclass, recently joined by redundant state-owned enterprise workers—examining their situation in relative as well as absolute terms. …”

Analyzing power errors in the optical pumping system of atomic spin comagnetometers
Published 2025-03-01“…They also play a crucial role in fundamental physics research, including testing Lorentz symmetry and charge–parity–time (CPT) symmetry, which are essential for understanding potential deviations from standard physical theories. A significant challenge in the SERF comagnetometers performance is power errors in optical pumping systems, which affect two critical operational aspects: scale factor and zero-bias stability. …”

Human Capital, Economic Growth and Environmental Quality with Special Emphasis on Public Education Expenditures: An Application of DSGE Models
Published 2024-12-01“…Theoretical studies emphasize different mechanisms through which education affects economic growth. (1) Education increases the human capital of the labor force, thereby increasing labor productivity and shifting growth toward a higher equilibrium level of output. (2) In endogenous growth theories, education increases the economy's capacity to innovate new technologies, products, and processes, thereby promoting growth. …”

Editorial
Published 2018-12-01“…After all, political parties act as gatekeepers because they are in control of the list of candidates running for election. Drawing on theories of party politics, the authors argue for five different factors that could possibly explain the share of young MPs: the age of the party leader, the age of the party, the size of party support, the party’s ideology, and the party’s formal recruitment procedure for candidates. …”
