Association between perception of COVID-19 risk, confidence in health services and avoidance of emergency department visits: results from a community-based survey in Portugal
Published 2022-07-01“…Of those, 242 reported avoiding ED visits.Outcome measures Logistic regression models for ED avoidance were conducted to estimate the effect of risk perception and confidence in health services, adjusted for sociodemographics, health status and time. Results The adjusted odds for ED avoidance were higher for participants lacking confidence in health service response to non-COVID-19 conditions (adjusted OR: 6.39; 95% CI 3.19 to 12.82) and COVID-19 (1.81; 1.19 to 2.77) and lower for those perceiving a low risk of being infected at a health provider (0.16; 0.07 to 0.38).Conclusion In our sample, confidence in health services and risk perception of infection at a health provider were associated with the decision to avoid the ED. …”

CRISPR/Cas13a combined with reverse transcription and RPA for NoV GII.4 monitoring in water environments
Published 2025-01-01“…The entire process of our established method—from viral nucleic acid extraction to the output of the results—was completed in 30 min, much less than the time required for qPCR method. This suggests that the assay can be used as an alternative to qPCR for monitoring the change of NoV GII.4 concentration in water bodies, and shows high potential for application in the immediate detection of viruses in aqueous environments and resource-limited areas.…”

Immune-endocrine crossroads: the impact of nuclear receptors in Tuberculosis and Chagas disease
Published 2025-02-01“…Unlike acute inflammation, which helps the host respond to pathogens, chronic inflammation leads to metabolic disorders and a dysregulated neuro-immuno-endocrine response. Over time, disturbances in cytokine, hormone, and other compound production foster an unbalanced, detrimental defensive response. …”

Quaternized Molecular Brush‐Grafted Injectable Microgel with Anti‐Inflammatory and Drainage Properties for Efficient Therapy of Anal Fistula
Published 2025-02-01“…Traditional treatments often fail to effectively eliminate inflammation and ensure adequate drainage, leading to prolonged healing time and a high recurrence rate. Herein, a new class of quaternized molecular brush‐grafted injectable microgel (denoted as GAA@CNT‐g‐PVBTMA) is developed through thermal polymerization and mechanical fragmentation to promote the healing process of anal fistula. …”
