Cohort study evaluating pressure ulcer management in clinical practice in the UK following initial presentation in the community: costs and outcomes by Julian F Guest, Graham W Fuller, Peter Vowden, Kathryn Ruth Vowden

    Published 2018-07-01
“…Objectives The aim of this study was to estimate the patterns of care and annual levels of healthcare resource use attributable to managing pressure ulcers (PUs) in clinical practice in the community by the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), and the associated costs of patient management. Methods This was a retrospective cohort analysis of the records of 209 patients identified within a randomly selected population of 6000 patients with any type of wound obtained from The Health Improvement Network (THIN) Database, who developed a PU in the community and excluded hospital-acquired PUs. …”

Experimental Investigation of Unloading-Induced Red Sandstone Failure: Insight into Spalling Mechanism and Strength-Weakening Effect by Yong Luo, Fengqiang Gong, Dongqiao Liu

    Published 2020-01-01
“…After the red sandstone is unloaded to a two-dimensional stress state, with increasing confining pressure, the strength increases first and then decreases; the failure mode changes from a low-confining pressure tensile-shear failure to a high-confining pressure tensile failure; and the geometries of the slabs change from large thick plates and wedges to medium- and small-sized thin plates. At equal confining pressures, the higher the unloading rate, the lower the strength (i.e., the strength-weakening effect is more pronounced), the thinner the slab, and the lower the confining pressure required for the failure mode to change from tensile-shear failure to tensile failure. …”

Fluvial terrace formation in a mountainous area (2): influence of eustatism, tectonics and altitudinal distribution of watersheds based on an allostratigraphic study (Albania) by Mugnier, Jean-Louis, Guzmán, Oswaldo, Vassallo, Riccardo,  Matraku, Kristina, Jouanne, François

    Published 2024-12-01
“…The thickness of the sedimentary units above the strath surfaces is mostly influenced by the altitudinal distribution of the river catchments: thin strath terraces are found in the low elevation catchments, while thick fill terraces are found in large catchments and we suggest here that the deposition of fill terrace sediments occurred very rapidly at the cold-warm transitions when the high elevation areas of the large catchments were not protected by vegetation and heavily affected by hillslope processes that delivered a large volume of sediments. …”
