Application of 3D Printing Technology in the Mechanical Testing of Complex Structural Rock Masses
Published 2021-01-01“…In this study, through a comprehensive review of the technical progress, equipment situation, application fields, and challenges of the use of 3DP technology, the following conclusions were obtained: (1) 3DP technology has advantages over traditional rock mass specimen preparation techniques, and the verification of test results using 3D printed samples shows that the 3DP has broad application prospects in geotechnical engineering. (2) The combination of 3DP and other advanced techniques can be used to achieve the accurate reconstruction of complex structural rock masses and to obtain the mechanical and failure characteristics of the same rock mass structure under different mechanical boundary conditions. (3) The development of 3DP materials with high strength, high brittleness, and low ductility has become the major bottleneck in the application of 3DP in geotechnical engineering. (4) 3D printers need to meet the high precision and large size requirements while also having high strength and long-term printing ability. …”

The emergence of DNAM-1 as the facilitator of NK cell-mediated killing in ovarian cancer
Published 2025-01-01“…Expression of PVR, the DNAM-1 ligand, was significantly increased on tumours and DNAM-1 mediated NK cell lysis of primary tumour tissue was observed in vitro.DiscussionThese findings reveal profound modulation of the tumour tissue and systemic profile of NK cells which likely contributes to the high rates of local progression and metastasis seen with OC. Immunotherapeutic approaches that overcome local immune suppression and enhance DNAM-1-targeted lysis of OC offer the potential to improve disease control.…”

A hepatocellular carcinoma model with and without parenchymal liver damage that integrates technical and pathophysiological advantages for therapy testing
Published 2025-01-01“…We developed an HCC model via intrasplenic injection of highly tumorigenic HCC cells, which, due to cellular tropism, invade the liver and allow for a controllable disease progression. Specifically, C57BL/6JRj mice were intrasplenically inoculated with Dt81Hepa1–6 HCC cells, with a subgroup pre-treated with CCl4 to induce cirrhosis (C-HCC). …”

The associations between single nucleotide polymorphisms and diabetic retinopathy risk: an umbrella review
Published 2024-09-01“…The TCF7L2 C/T variant could be identified as a definitive genetic risk factor for the development and progression of DR. Data from additional in-depth studies are needed to establish robust evidence for the associations between polymorphisms of IL-6 or VEGF and DR.…”

PBMCs gene expression predicts liver fibrosis regression after successful HCV therapy in HIV/HCV-coinfected patients
Published 2025-01-01“…BackgroundHCV eradication with antiviral treatment reduces hepatic disease, but some patients remain at risk of progression to cirrhosis despite HCV clearance. We aimed to examine the association between peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) gene expression before HCV therapy and a pronounced decrease in the liver stiffness measurement (LSM) value in HIV/HCV-coinfected patients after HCV treatment and achievement of sustained virological response (SVR).MethodsWe performed a retrospective study in 48 HIV/HCV-coinfected patients who started anti-HCV treatment with at least advanced fibrosis (LSM ≥9.5). …”

Repetitive Mild but Not Single Moderate Brain Trauma Is Associated with TAR DNA-Binding Protein 43 Mislocalization and Glial Activation in the Mouse Spinal Cord
Published 2025-01-01“…Later in life, these changes can be manifested as neurodegenerative sequalae that commonly involve proteinopathies, such as transactive DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43). The progression of pathophysiological changes to the spinal cord motor neurons has been detected after repetitive TBI, while such changes have been less investigated after single TBI. …”

Brain penetration of peripheral extracellular vesicles from Alzheimer's patients and induction of microglia activation
Published 2025-01-01“…We demonstrated that pEVs traverse the BBB by transcytosis and subsequently diffuse progressively into the brain. pEVs were then internalized by neuronal and radial glial cells as seen in Tg(huc:EGFP) and Tg(gfap:EGFP) zebrafish, respectively. …”

Correlation Between <i>Cryptococcus</i> Infection and the Nasal Mycobiota in a Population of Free-Ranging Koalas (<i>Phascolarctos cinereus</i>) in New South Wales, Australia
Published 2025-01-01“…Interactions between respiratory pathogens and the nasal mycobiome are thought to play a role in the development and progression of numerous respiratory diseases. As such, this study aimed to characterise the mycobiome of the nasal vestibule in koalas with and without evidence of cryptococcal colonisation and subclinical disease via the next-generation sequencing (NGS) of the ITS1 region of the fungal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) gene. …”

MicroRNA-21 as a Regulator of Cancer Stem Cell Properties in Oral Cancer
Published 2025-01-01“…Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a highly aggressive malignancy with poor prognosis, mainly due to the presence of cancer stem cells (CSCs), a small subpopulation of cells that contribute to therapy resistance and tumor progression. The principal objective of this study was to investigate the role of miRNA-21 in the maintenance of cancer cell stemness and the possibility of altering it. …”
