The sulfur-related metabolic status of Aspergillus fumigatus during infection reveals cytosolic serine hydroxymethyltransferase as a promising antifungal target
Published 2025-12-01“…To gain insight into Aspergillus fumigatus sulfur-related metabolism during infection, we used a NanoString custom nCounter-TagSet and compared the expression of 68 key metabolic genes in different murine models of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis, at 3 time-points, and under a variety of in vitro conditions. …”

Longitudinal associations between air pollution and incident dementia as mediated by MRI-measured brain volumes in the UK Biobank
Published 2025-01-01“…Mediation of exposure-outcome associations by plausible brain volumes (those associated with both environmental exposure and dementia outcomes) were modelled using the quasi-Bayesian Monte Carlo method (N = 34,817–39,772). Results: Small but significant mediating effects (2%-8% of relationships mediated) were observed between PM2.5abs exposure and dementia risk by reduced total brain volume, NOx and Alzheimer’s disease risk by reduced peripheral cortical grey matter, PM2.5abs and vascular dementia risk by reduced peripheral cortical grey matter, PM2.5abs and other dementia risk by reduced total grey matter, and PM10 and other dementia risk by reduced total grey matter. …”

β-Endorphin Mediates the Development and Instability of Atherosclerotic Plaques
Published 2020-01-01“…The μ-opioid receptor (OPRM1) was expressed in THP-1 monocytes, macrophages, HASMCs, HUVECs, and human aortic endothelial cells. β-Endorphin significantly increased THP-1 monocyte adhesion to HUVECs and induced upregulation of intercellular adhesion molecule-1, vascular cell adhesion molecule-1, and E-selectin via nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) and p38 phosphorylation in HUVECs. β-Endorphin significantly increased HUVEC proliferation and enhanced oxidized low-density lipoprotein-induced foam cell formation in macrophages. β-Endorphin also significantly shifted the macrophage phenotype to proinflammatory M1 rather than anti-inflammatory M2 via NF-κB phosphorylation during monocyte-macrophage differentiation and increased migration and apoptosis in association with c-jun-N-terminal kinase, p38, and NF-κB phosphorylation in HASMCs. …”

Hydrodynamic cavitation induced fabrication of soy protein isolate–polyphenol complexes: Structural and functional properties
Published 2025-01-01“…HC treatment reduced the contents of free sulfhydryl and amino groups in SPI–polyphenol complexes and altered their Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, indicating that HC treatment promoted the formation of C–N and C–S bonds between SPI and polyphenols. Circular dichroism spectroscopy indicated that HC treatment altered the secondary structure of SPI–polyphenol complexes, inducing an increase in α-helix and random coil contents and a decrease in β-sheet content. …”
