A UWB NLOS identification method under pedestrian occlusion by Tong WU, Yeshen LI, Zhenhuang HUANG, Yu ZHANG, Wanle ZHANG, Ke XIONG

    Published 2023-12-01
“…Ultrawideband (UWB) is a hot technology for indoor positioning with large bandwidth, strong anti-interference ability, and high multipath resolution capacity. However, due to the complex indoor environment, UWB signal propagation will inevitably be blocked, resulting in non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation, which greatly reduces the accuracy of UWB positioning. Therefore, identifying NLOS signals accurately and discarding or correcting them are important to alleviate the problem of the decline in positioning accuracy. The majority of present NLOS identification work focuses on scenes with building structures such as walls.Further discussion is needed for scenes obscured by pedestrians.Since the impact of human obstacles on the signals is more complex and cannot be ignored, the NLOS identification under pedestrian occlusion was studied.By comparing a variety of machine learning methods and signal feature combinations, the random forest method based on the three-dimensional features of the first path signal power, the received signal power, and the measured distance was proposed. These features with fewer dimensions and easy extraction were used to achieve a high identification percentage for NLOS.The experimental results based on the measured data of different devices show that the NLOS identification accuracy based on the proposed method reaches 99.05%, 99.32% and 98.81% respectively.…”

Unified ultraviolet communication and sensing:modeling and system optimization by Chen GONG, Yuchen PAN, Zhengyuan XU

    Published 2023-09-01
“…Currently, there exist few communication works which combine with sensing. It is necessary to build up a unified communication and sensing signal model and system joint design optimization framework.Based on this, a unified ultraviolet communication and sensing framework was proposed, consisting of a transmitter, a sensing detector and a communication receiver. The transmitter sent modulated signals to the communication receiver for information transmission.Due to the non-line of sight scattering effect, certain components of the transmitted signals reached the unknown target which further reflected to the sensing detector for target detection. Two performance metrics for communication and sensing were considered, including the mutual information between the transmitted symbol and the signal at the communication receiver, and the miss detection probability for the target detector. The relationship between the two metrics and the transmission parameters was further analyzed, including the transmission power for the high-level signal, the transmission power for the low-level signal, and the prior probabilities. The results demonstrate a tradeoff between the communication performance metric and sensing performance metric. It is also shown that the power for the high-level signal should be set to be the peak power, and the power for the low-level signal and the prior probabilities should be optimized, to minimize the miss detection probability given a lower bound on the mutual information.…”

Wi-Pest:a method for detecting stored grain pests based on CSI by Shaowei SHAN, Weidong YANG, Le XIAO, Ke WANG

    Published 2020-12-01
“…The environmental and biological factors that affect the food security during the food storage, such as the food temperature, environment humidity, moisture, gas, mildew, pests and others pose a threat to the food storage security, among which the pest is an important factor threatening food storage security. Therefore,a fast and effective detection method is needed to detect stored grain pests. Some of the existing methods are time consuming, using expensive equipment, potentially harmful to health and inefficient.A non-contact,fast and low-cost detection method for stored grain pests based on the amplitude of the channel state information (CSI) was proposed,namely,wireless-pest (Wi-Pest).The feasibility of the pest detection in the stored grain was verified by using CSI amplitude data.On this basis,a Wi-Pest detection method was designed.Firstly, the amplitude data of CSI was preprocessed by outliers removal, data normalization and noise elimination. Then the principal component analysis (PCA) was used to compress the data and extract the main feature components. Finally, random forest (RF) classification method was used to detect stored grain pests.Experiments show that the abnormal density of live pests in grain heaps can be detected under the line of sight (LOS) scenario, and the detection accuracy of the proposed method can reach 97% on average.…”
