Drug-induced differential culturability in diverse strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by Valerie F. A. March, Nino Maghradze, Kakha Mchedlishvili, Teona Avaliani, Rusudan Aspindzelashvili, Zaza Avaliani, Maia Kipiani, Nestani Tukvadze, Levan Jugheli, Selim Bouaouina, Anna Doetsch, Galo A. Goig, Sebastien Gagneux, Sonia Borrell

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Experimentally, there was a disparity between bacterial time to positivity (TTP) and colony forming units (CFUs) when Mtb was exposed to isoniazid (INH) and rifampicin (RIF) alone or in combination. Cultures recovered from RIF treatment yielded more CFUs on agar plates, but INH-treated cultures had a faster TTP in liquid. …”

Exosomes secreted by ATF3/Nrf2-mediated ferroptotic renal tubular epithelial cells promote M1/M2 ratio imbalance inducing renal interstitial fibrosis following ischemia and reperfu... by Qiao Tang, Jiatao Xie, Yifei Wang, Chong Dong, Chong Dong, Qian Sun

    Published 2025-02-01
“…BackgroundSevere renal ischemia and reperfusion injury (IRI) progresses to renal interstitial fibrosis (RIF) with limited therapeutic strategies. Although ferrptosis and macrophage polarization both play important roles in this model, their specific pathogenesis and interactions have not been elucidated. …”

Preimplantation Genetic Screening: An Effective Testing for Infertile and Repeated Miscarriage Patients? by Ning Wang, Ying-Ming Zheng, Lei Li, Fan Jin

    Published 2010-01-01
“…Aneuploidy in pregnancy is known to increase with advanced maternal age (AMA) and associate with repeated implantation failure (RIF), and repeated miscarriage (RM). Preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) has been introduced into clinical practice, screening, and eliminating aneuploidy embryos, which can improve the chance of conceptions for infertility cases with poor prognosis. …”

Metabolic Dysfunction in the Regulation of the NLRP3 Inflammasome Activation: A Potential Target for Diabetic Nephropathy by Wenli Zhao, Le Zhou, Petr Novák, Xian Shi, Chuang Biao Lin, Xiao Zhu, Kai Yin

    Published 2022-01-01
“…Thus, in this review, we discuss the potential function of abnormal metabolites such as saturated fatty acids (SFAs), cholesterol crystals, uric acid (UA), and homocysteine in the NLRP3 inflammasome activation and explain the potential function of metabolic dysfunction regulation of NLRP3 activation in the progress of DN via regulation of inflammatory response and renal interstitial fibrosis (RIF). In addition, the potential mechanisms of metabolism-related drugs, such as metformin and sodium glucose cotransporter (SGLT2) inhibitors, which have served as the suppressors of the NLRP3 inflammasomes, in DN, are also discussed. …”

Has Internet Usage Really Narrowed the Gender Wage Gap?: Evidence from Chinese General Social Survey Data by Jiacheng Gao, Yue Liu

    Published 2023-01-01
“…Based on the data from a sample of 4832 from the Chinese General Social Survey in 2018, this study examines the impact of Internet usage on the wage equation for males and females by using the robust least squares regression method, the threshold regression method, and the quantile regression method and decomposes the gender wage gap on this basis by using the RIF regression decomposition method. The findings show that, firstly, in either linear or nonlinear effects, Internet usage has a significant wage premium effect on the male wage equation, and this premium effect increases as male wage income rises, but Internet usage consistently does not have a significant effect on the female wage equation. …”
