Assessing conservation priorities for seahorses in Brazil reveals gaps in current protected areas by Anna Karolina Martins Borges, Vanessa M. Adams, Rômulo Romeu Nóbrega Alves, Tacyana Pereira Ribeiro Oliveira

    Published 2025-06-01
“…Conservation gaps were identified by comparing SDM predictions with the existing protected area (PA) network, and priority areas were determined using Marxan software. SDMs revealed species‐specific habitat associations: Hippocampus reidi was found in shallow coastal habitats, such as mangroves, seagrass beds, and rocky shores, across Brazil, particularly in the northeast and southeast; Hippocampus patagonicus occurred in deeper coastal areas, from Rio de Janeiro to Rio Grande do Sul; and Hippocampus aff. erectus was limited to the northeast, primarily inhabiting mangrove and seagrass areas. …”

Multi-omics reveals the polyethylene terephthalate carcinogenicity: Cancer progression and immune microenvironment by Kangping Yang, Xianhuan Zhou, Kai Wu, Jiaqiang Wu, Chunxia Huang, Liang Yang

    Published 2025-09-01
“…We identified PET-associated oncogenic targets and conducted pan-cancer expression profiling with prognostic analyses of 22 core genes, subsequently employing machine learning algorithms to quantify their prognostic weights across malignancies. Molecular docking revealed six high-affinity PET-binding targets (PIK3CA, TOP2A, PARP1, SRC, EP300, CREBBP; binding energies <−6.0 kcal/mol) predominantly expressed in T-cells and phagocytic cells, with significant infiltration into malignant tumor regions. …”

Comparative analysis of three experimental methods for revealing human fecal microbial diversity by Caiqing Yao, Yu Zhang, Lijun You, Jingjing E, Junguo Wang

    Published 2025-04-01
“…It suggests that both culture-dependent and culture-independent approaches are essential in revealing gut microbial diversity. Moreover, based on the CEMS results, growth rate index (GRiD) values for various strains on different media were calculated to predict the optimal medium for bacterial growth; this method can be used to design new media for intestinal microbial isolation, promote the recovery of specific microbiota, and obtain new insights into the human microbiome diversity. …”

Revealing pathogenesis-associated metabolites in Histoplasma capsulatum through comprehensive metabolic profiling by Adrian Heckart, Jean-Christophe Cocuron, Stephanie C. Ray, Chad A. Rappleye, Ana P. Alonso

    Published 2025-03-01
“…Metabolomic results of in vitro-grown yeasts were further characterized with available transcriptomic data, informing underlying gene expression patterns in response to contrasting milieus. These approaches revealed that Histoplasma yeasts, unlike many other yeasts, do not ferment sugars to ethanol, and, when cultivated on glycolytic versus gluconeogenic carbon sources, produce distinct metabolomes with altered intracellular amino acid, lipid, and sugar contents. …”
