Supplementation with yak (Bos grunniens) bone collagen hydrolysate altered the structure of gut microbiota and elevated short-chain fatty acid production in mice
Published 2023-09-01“…At the family level, the Lachnospiraceae abundance was significantly reduced in the YBCH gavage groups (mean reduction ratio 41.7 %, 35.2 %, and 36.4 % for LD, MD, and HD group, respectively). The predicted functions of gut microbes in the MD group were significantly increased at “lipid metabolism” and “glycan biosynthesis and metabolism”. …”

Coastal aquaculture ponds represent a notable source of the blooming jellyfish Aurelia coerulea
Published 2025-02-01“…In this study, we aimed to identify the early habitats A. coerulea using environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding technology to predict the sources of blooms. We successfully detected A. coerulea in a temperate bay (Laizhou Bay, LZB) and nearby aquaculture ponds (Dongying, DY) in March, when medusae were absent, revealing the habitats and distributions of the early stages of bloom-causing jellyfish. …”

Increasing survival time decreases the cost-effectiveness of using "test & treat to eliminate HIV epidemics
Published 2013-07-01“…., universal ``test & treat'') could lead to HIV elimination and would be extremely cost-effective.It is now being debated whether to use a universal ``test and treat'' approach in the ``real-world'' as a prevention strategy to control HIV epidemics. However current modeling predictions of the impact, and cost-effectiveness, of universal ``test & treat'' strategies are based on an unrealistically short survival time for treated individuals. Here we use mathematical modeling and a longer, more realistic, survival time.We model the potential impact of a universal ``test & treat'' strategy in South Africa. Our results show that increasing the length of the survival time on treatment, although beneficial to individuals, reduces the probability of eliminating HIV and decreases the cost-effectiveness of using universal ``test & treat'' strategies. Therefore our results show that individual-level benefits and public health benefits will conflict when using ``test & treat'' strategies to reduce HIV transmission.…”
