Association between selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors use and blood transfusion risk in older adults after hip fracture: a cohort study
Published 2024-12-01“…Results Out of 1085 patients, 253 (23%) were male, mean age was 86 (± 6.2) years, and median Charlson Comorbidity Index was 7 (interquartile range [5–8]). 486 (45%) patients received perioperative RBC transfusion, with a median of 2 units (interquartile range [1–3]) transfused per patient postoperatively. After adjusting for age, sex, comorbidities, functional status, institutionalization, polypharmacy, antiplatelet therapy, fracture type, hemoglobin and albumin levels, the use of SSRIs was not associated with an increased risk of RBC transfusion (aOR 0.91, 95%CI 0.64–1.29, p = 0.59). …”

Effects of public roads on wildlife-vehicle collisions in two protected areas, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park and iSimangaliso Wetland Park, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Published 2025-01-01“…Our results showed that intervention is needed along portions of the two public roads in both protected areas, particularly during the wet season, with mortality rates as high as 13 carcasses per km. Mitigation measures should be implemented to reduce the number of wildlife mortalities along the roads in both locations, with specific measures to mitigate small vertebrate road mortalities. …”

A cross-sectional study exploring the predictors of herpes zoster vaccination for people aged over 50 years old in Chaoyang district, Beijing
Published 2025-01-01“…Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that certain factors were associated with lower vaccination coverage, including being female, having a low frequency of influenza episodes (less than twice per year), and having chronic diseases. On the other hand, higher vaccination coverage was observed among individuals whose spouses had a master’s degree or higher, those awarded that a history of chickenpox may lead to potential herpes zoster infection, those who were knowledgeable about the herpes zoster vaccine, and those received recommendations from medical staff. …”
