5G mobile/multi-access edge computing integrated architecture and deployment strategy by Jianmin ZHANG, Weiliang XIE, Fengyi YANG, Zhouyun WU

    Published 2018-04-01
“…Mobile/multi-access edge computing (MEC) technology migrates computing storage capabilities and service service capabilities to the edge of the network, enabling applications, services and content to be localized,close-range and distributed. Therefore,to a certain extent, the business requirements of 5G enhanced mobile broadband, low latency and high reliability and large-scale machine communication terminal connection are solved. At the same time, the MEC fully exploits mobile network data and information to implement the awareness and analysis of context information of the mobile network and open it to third-party service applications. This effectively enhances the level of intelligence in mobile networks and promotes the deep integration of networks and services. Therefore, the value and significance of the MEC was firstly analyzed according to the typical 5G service scenario.Secondly, based on the research progress of ETSI and 3GPP,a MEC fusion architecture oriented to 5G was proposed, and the overall deployment strategy of MEC was discussed and analyzed.Furthermore, the possible problems and challenges in the future application of MEC technology in 5G networks were discussed to provide reference for subsequent research and development.…”

Inter-block 4-erasure-correcting coding scheme for real-time bulk data transfer by Gang CHEN, Jun-feng ZHU, Shi-le ZHANG, Bai-feng WU

    Published 2012-06-01
“…Most of the existing erasure-correcting codes were limited by encoding/decoding complexities and encoded data size. They were not suitable for use in the real-time applications that orient bulk data based on blocks or packages. Therefore,a novel inter-block 4-erasure-correcting coding scheme for real-time bulk data transfer was presented.Based on single parity-check codes incorporated with the features of GF(28)field in finite field, the present coding scheme could tolerate simultaneous failures of four blocks with only four redundancy blocks for a group of continuous data.Meanwhile, its encoding/decoding complexities had linear relationship with respect to the size of data blocks and it supported arbitrary size of data.Furthermore,it was proved to have MDS property, thus achieving optimal erasure-correcting capability with the same redundancy information.Theoretical and experimental analysis showed that the present coding scheme could code with 27 continuous data blocks at most.…”

Semantic communication networking for the intelligence of everything by Guangming SHI, Yong XIAO, Yingyu LI, Dahua GAO, Xuemei XIE

    Published 2021-06-01
“…With the fast growing demand for the wireless network intelligence, the future communication system will transform from the traditional data-oriented solution to a novel intelligence-of-everything (IoE)-based architecture.Semantic communication is a new communication technology which involves the meaning of message into the communication process. It is believed that semantic communication will have the potential to serve as the fundamental paradigm for the future IoE.The relationship between the semantic communication and IoE was discussed and the basic models and fundamental components of semantic communication were introduced.By discussing the limitations of point-to-point semantic communication, it was argued that the knowledge sharing and resource convergence-based semantic communication networking would be ideal for supporting the future massive scales of IoE systems. The basic components of the semantic communication networking system were discussed and a federated edge intelligence-based semantic communication networking architecture as a case study was considered.Simulation results show that semantic communication networking has the potential to further reduce the resource demand and improve the efficiency of semantic communication. Finally, open problems for future research were discussed.…”
