A global analysis of portion size recommendations in food-based dietary guidelines
Published 2024-11-01“…ObjectiveSince large food portion sizes (PS) lead to overconsumption, our objective was to review PS recommendations for commonly consumed food groups reported in Food-Based Dietary Guidelines (FBDGs) globally and to assess variation in PS across countries and regions.MethodsConsumer-oriented FBDGs from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) online repository were used to evaluate dietary recommendations, PS and number of portions for common food groups. …”

Comprehensive three-dimensional microCT and signaling analysis reveal the teratogenic effect of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin on craniofacial bone development in mice
Published 2025-01-01“…By treating pregnant mice with TCDD (40 μg/kg) at the vital craniofacial patterning stages (embryonic day 8.5, 10.5 and 12.5), and scanning and reconstructing the skulls at embryonic day 18.5 using microCT, we found that TCDD exposure at the earlier and later patterning stages induced variable craniofacial malformations, including premature fusion of metopic and coronal sutures, truncated palatal processes of maxillary and palatine bones, as well as opening oriented pterygoid processes. Further in vitro determination of the underlying mechanisms using human fetal palatal mesenchymal cells (hFPMCs) revealed that TCDD suppressed a wide variety of osteogenic genes responsible for osteoblast commitment and bone matrix synthesis and mineralization, through activating aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) signaling and subsequently inhibiting estrogen signaling. …”

Characterization of chemosensory genes in the subterranean pest Gryllotalpa Orientalis based on genome assembly and transcriptome comparison
Published 2025-01-01“…This sensory process is governed by diverse gene families, including odorant-binding proteins (OBPs), olfactory receptors (ORs), ionotropic receptors (IRs), chemosensory proteins (CSPs), gustatory receptors (GRs), and sensory neuron membrane proteins (SNMPs). The oriental mole cricket (Gryllotalpa orientalis Burmeister), an invasive pest with an underground, phyllophagous lifestyle, causes substantial crop damage. …”

Affective touch enhances low gamma activity during hand proprioceptive perception in children with different neurodevelopmental conditions
Published 2025-02-01“…BackgroundGamma wave activity in the sensorimotor cortex is a critical neural mechanism associated with proprioceptive processing, which is essential for motor coordination, balance, and spatial orientation. The modulation of gamma oscillations by different types of tactile stimuli, including affective touch, is not well understood, particularly in children with neurodevelopmental disorders such as cerebral palsy and autism spectrum disorder.AimsThis study aims to explore how affective touch influences gamma oscillatory activity and proprioceptive performance in children with typical development, cerebral palsy and autism spectrum disorders. Methods and proceduresEEG data were recorded from participants during passive wrist mobilizations under three conditions: following an affective touch stimulus, after a non-affective touch stimulus, and with no tactile stimulation. …”
