Mycophenolate mofetil: an update on its mechanism of action and effect on lymphoid tissue by Anna Krawczyk, Bernard Kravčenia, Tomasz Maślanka

    Published 2025-01-01
“…IntroductionMycophenolate mofetil (MMF) is an immunosuppressive drug administered in the management of both autoimmune diseases and organ transplantation. The main aims of the study were: (a) to obtain information regarding the safety of using MMF in respect of its effect on normal T and B cells in lymphoid tissues; (b) to investigate whether the generation of inducible Foxp3-expressing regulatory T cells (Treg) might constitute additional mechanisms underlying the immunosuppressive properties of MMF.MethodsThe effect of MMF (in vivo studies) and its active metabolite, mycophenolic acid, (in vitro studies) on murine CD4+ and CD8+ T cells as well as B cells was determined, regarding: (a) absolute count, proliferation and apoptosis of these cells (in vitro studies); (b) absolute count of these cells in the head and neck lymph nodes, mesenteric lymph nodes and the spleen (in vivo studies).ResultsThe study found that the treatment of mice with MMF induced depletion of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells and B cells in lymph nodes and the spleen, and the magnitude of these effects should be considered as clinically relevant. …”

Development and Evaluation of a Novel Radiotracer 125I-rIL-27 to Monitor Allotransplant Rejection by Specifically Targeting IL-27Rα by Shanshan Zhao, Qian Liu, Feng Gao, Guihua Hou

    Published 2023-01-01
“…Noninvasive monitoring of allograft rejection is beneficial for the prognosis of patients with organ transplantation. Recently, IL-27/IL-27Rα was proved in close relation with inflammatory diseases, and 125I-anti-IL-27Rα mAb our group developed demonstrated high accumulation in the rejection of the allograft. …”

    Published 2020-01-01
“…The introduction of calcineurin inhibitors, cyclosporine A and tacrolimus, in immunosuppressive regimens significantly improved the outcome of solid-organ transplantation even though immunosuppression-associated neurotoxicity remains a significant complication, particularly occurring in about 25% of cases after liver transplantation. …”

Chronic hepatitis B and risk of kidney involvement by M. V. Mayevskaya, I. N. Tikhonov, V. T. Ivashkin

    Published 2013-05-01
“…Antiviral therapy is indicated to the most of these patients which potential, at the same time, is limited by initially decreased renal function, nephrotoxicity of some drugs or simultaneous prescription of immunosuppressants after organ transplantation. At development of liver cirrhosis (LC) and its decompensation one more aspect of renal disease at CHB arises i.e. risk of hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) of the 1st or 2nd type that is a poor prognostic marker and requires individual therapeutic approach.Conclusion. …”
