This paper discusses this didactic stake, examining two science-fiction narratives which include a similar pattern of brain-washing and transplant: The Stone of Goddess Nüwa (Nüwa shi, by ‘Haitian duxiao zi) and New Tales of Mr Braggadocio (Xin faluo xiansheng tan, by Xu Nianci), respectively published in 1904 and 1905. …”
