    Quasi-cyclic extension based on PEG algorithm for construction of LDPC codes by LEI Jing1, WANG Jian-hui1, TANG Chao-jing1

    “…Several important relations between the cycle structure on the Tanner graph and the parity-check matrix H of LDPC codes were proved.A new algorithm for constructing LDPC codes was proposed that introduced quasi-cyclic ex-tension method to PEG algorithm.After a basic matrix was constructed with PEG algorithm,circulant permutation ma-trices would replace the "1"s in the basic matrix.The new method could eliminate effectively the short cycles in the basic matrix without changing the degree distribution fraction of the basic matrix.Simulations show that the quasi-cyclic extended codes based on PEG algorithm have as good error correcting performance as the LDPC codes generated by PEG algorithm in the same conditions of code length,rate,degree distribution and decoding algorithm.The conclusion of contrastive analysis is that well-chosen cycle structures can improve the decoding performance obviously under the given degree distribution.The proposed algorithm can offer a good performance and low encoding complexity synchronously by taking advantage of the quasi-cyclic code’s characteristic that its parity-check matrix H has less superposition within the cycles.…”

    “…A method of semi-random and semi-algebraic structure was presented for constructing the low-density parity-check matrix that corresponds to the information bits of the IRA codes.Compared with the existing structural LDPC codes,the distinct advantage of the presented compact structural array for information-bit-corresponding matrix is that the position coordinate of each 1 element in this matrix can be calculated by a determinate algebraic expression,which not only reduces the consumption of memory resource for the random parity-check matrix,but also provides the potential probability for designing low complexity hardware circuit of the LDPC encoder/decoder.In addition,compared with the existing practical LDPC codes in industrial standard,the presented IRA-LDPC code is also slight preponderance in the performance of simulation in bit error rate and signal noise ratio (BER-SNB).…”

    “…Under the circumstance that white Gaussian noise and random erasures exist all at once,the stability condition for LDPC codes over mixed channel was proposed.And it was proved that a good degree sequence of LDPC codes was not optimized over mixed channel.It can also be proved by simulation.The random particle swarm optimization (RPSO) and simulated annealing (SA) algorithm were combined to find some capacity-approaching degree sequences over mixed channel with different erasure probabilities.The threshold of signal-to-noise ratio improves 1.615 9 dB than that of the classical degree sequences calculated by Gaussian approximation over mixed channel.These degree sequences are optimal for optical recording and frequency-hopping communication with narrow-band interference.…”
