Clinical risk score to predict in-hospital mortality in COVID-19 patients: a retrospective cohort study
Published 2020-09-01“…In the present study, we aimed to develop a clinical risk score to predict the in-hospital mortality in COVID-19 patients, based on a set of variables available soon after the hospitalisation triage.Setting Retrospective cohort study of 516 patients consecutively admitted for COVID-19 to two Italian tertiary hospitals located in Northern and Central Italy were collected from 22 February 2020 (date of first admission) to 10 April 2020.Participants Consecutive patients≥18 years admitted for COVID-19.Main outcome measures Simple clinical and laboratory findings readily available after triage were compared by patients’ survival status (‘dead’ vs ‘alive’), with the objective of identifying baseline variables associated with mortality. …”

Influence of volatiles (H$_{2}$O and CO$_{2}$) on shoshonite phase equilibria
Published 2023-07-01“…This result has important consequences upon the physical properties of the magma because it influences its viscosity and, as a consequence, velocity during its travel to the Earth surface.Assuming that the widths of Vulcanello conduits vary from 0.5 to 1.5 m, estimates of the ascent velocity vary in the range 1.5 ${\times }$ 10$^{-4}$–3.5 ${\times }$ 10$^{-2}$ m${\cdot }$s$^{-1}$ for CO$_{2}$ free systems and from 5.7 ${\times }$ 10$^{-4}$–1.3 ${\times }$ 10$^{-1}$ m${\cdot }$s$^{-1}$ for CO$_{2}$ bearing systems.Since shoshonitic magmas are common not only in the Italian volcanic provinces (Aeolian Arc, Campi Flegrei, Ischia Island, Pontine Islands, Monti Cimini, Monte Amiata, Capraia Island, Radicofani, Roccamonfina) but also in different volcanoes worldwide (Yellowstone, Mariana Arc, Kurile Arc, Tonga Arc, Andean Arc, Kamchatka Arc), we suggest that the new data will be useful to better understand shoshonitic magma behaviour under relevant geological scenarios. …”

Imagined Libya: geopolitics of the margins
Published 2022-12-01“…The subsequent sections analyze geopolitical discourses from different sources to offer a review of some important spatial imaginaries that have contributed to representing, constituting and apprehending Libya as a subject and an object of international politics: ancient geography’s environmentalism; Italy’s imperial colonialism; Gaddafi’s pan-Arabism and, later, pan-Africanism; and Turkey’s pan-Ottomanism.Before modern colonisation, the imaginary of (today’s) Libyan territory was long apprehended through the dichotomy between urban (hadari) and rural (badawi) spaces, with the political and normative centre of gravitation oscillating from the former (during the Arab and later Ottoman hegemony) to the latter (during the rise of the Sanussi order). During the Italian colonisation, Libya was subsumed in Italy’s Mediterranean projections, whether as a necessary “fourth shore” to Italy’s expansion in its “own” Lebensraum, or as a bridge welding Europe and Africa within a unitary geopolitical entity called Eurafrica. …”
