Competition for a single resource and coexistence of several species in the chemostat by Nahla Abdellatif, Radhouane Fekih-Salem, Tewfik Sari

    Published 2016-04-01
“…We study a model of the chemostat with several species in competition for a single resource. We take into account the intra-specific interactions between individuals of the same population of micro-organisms andwe assume that the growth rates are increasing and the dilution rates are distinct.Using the concept of steady-state characteristics, we present a geometric characterization of the existence and stability of all equilibria. Moreover, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions on the control parameters of the system to have a positive equilibrium.Using a Lyapunov function, we give a global asymptotic stability result for the competition model of several species. The operating diagram describes the asymptotic behavior of this model with respect to control parametersand illustrates the effect of the intra-specific competition on the coexistence region of the species.…”

Nonlinear Fluctuation Behavior of Financial Time Series Model by Statistical Physics System by Wuyang Cheng, Jun Wang

    Published 2014-01-01
“…We develop a random financial time series model of stock market by one of statistical physics systems, the stochastic contact interacting system. Contact process is a continuous time Markov process; one interpretation of this model is as a model for the spread of an infection, where the epidemic spreading mimics the interplay of local infections and recovery of individuals. …”

Quand l’art public (dé)fait la ville ? by Pauline Guinard

    Published 2010-09-01
“…Nevertheless, in the light of an emblematic case study of one of these artworks, it is shown that public art as promoted by the municipality struggles to free itself from the legacy of Apartheid and to create social interaction into public spaces. Is this difficulty of municipal public art to be more than art in public space a result of the model of public art chosen? …”

Alterations of the Biochemical Pathways of Plants by the Air Pollutant Ozone: Which are the True Gauges of Injury? by Robert L. Heath

    Published 2007-01-01
“…Currently there are several hypotheses regarding a response of plants to ozone fumigation: [1] membrane dysfunction and alteration of purpose; [2] stress ethylene interactions; [3] impairment of photosynthesis via changes in Rubisco levels and the guard cells so that the stomata do not track correctly the environment; [4] antioxidant protection through metabolites and enzyme systems to reduce the oxidant load; and [5] general impairment or disruption of metabolic pathways.…”
