Study on the Relationship Between Water Resources Utilization and Economic Development in Hubei Province by ZHU Hao, YIN Mingcai, HU Yuanzhao, MA Jianing, ZHANG Jishi

    Published 2023-01-01
“…According to the water footprint theory, the structural characteristics of water footprint and the level of water resources utilization in Hubei Province were analyzed. The analysis results show that:①The water footprint and agricultural water footprint in Hubei Province generally rise with fluctuations, while the industrial water footprint decreases with fluctuations. The agricultural water footprint accounts for 87.8% of the water footprint in the province, which indicates that the water footprint in Hubei Province has significantly different structures.②The water resources utilization and economic growth in Hubei Province show a weak decoupling trend. The economy of Hubei Province develops positively, and the industrial structure is reasonable. The technical effect and economic scale cause major waste of water resources.③The overall water footprint intensity in Hubei Province significantly drops, and the water resources utilization efficiency gradually improves. However, the water footprint intensity in some regions is relatively high, and the water resources utilization efficiency can still be improved.④The water footprint intensity in Hubei Province has a significant spatial autocorrelation, which mainly presents low-low and high-low spatial clustering patterns, and it has an obvious tendency to spread to the surrounding areas.…”
