Increased vulnerability of Arctic potential ice roads under climate change
Published 2025-01-01“…In the context of the Arctic amplified warming, the vulnerability of potential ice roads under the influence of complex climate system remains unclear. Here, we construct a potential ice road assessment model that allows quantization of the climatic suitability of potential ice roads in the Arctic. …”

Camel milk is a neglected source of brucellosis among rural Arab communities
Published 2025-01-01“…To investigate the potential public health impact of Brucella in camels we conduct a cross-sectional study in southern Jordan including 227 herds and 202 livestock-owning households. Here we show daily consumption of raw camel milk is associated with Brucella seropositive status among the study population, ORadj 2.19 (95%CI 1.23–3.94) on multivariable analysis, highlighting the need for socioculturally appropriate control measures; targeted interventions among the camel reservoir being crucial for effective control.…”

The Effect of Lithium on Inflammation-Associated Genes in Lipopolysaccharide-Activated Raw 264.7 Macrophages
Published 2020-01-01“…Lithium has been shown to lower the production of the chemokine RANTES; furthermore, this inhibitory action of lithium has been suggested to be independent of glycogen synthase kinase-3 β (GSK3β) activity. It is shown here that lithium modulates the expression of several inflammatory genes including IκB-α, TRAF3, Tollip, and NF-κB1/p50 which are regulators of the NF-κB pathway. …”

Declines in anthropogenic mercury emissions in the Global North and China offset by the Global South
Published 2025-01-01“…Currently, consistent methodologies to evaluate long-term mercury emissions across countries and industries are scant, hindering efforts to prioritize emission controls. Here, we develop a high-spatiotemporal-resolution dataset to comprehensively analyze global anthropogenic mercury emission patterns. …”

Published 2024-12-01“…The development of high-performance and cost-effective Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets is crucial to meet the ever-growing requirements of renewable and clean energy applications. Here, we use low-cost and highly abundant La and Ce to partially substitute Nd and investigate the effect of annealing treatment with a 1 tesla (T) magnetic field on the microstructures and magnetic properties of (Nd0.8RE0.2)2.2Fe12Co2B (RE = La, Ce) ribbons. …”

Targeting of retrovirus-derived Rtl8a/8b causes late-onset obesity, reduced social response and increased apathy-like behaviour
Published 2025-01-01“…They cluster as a triplet of genes on the X chromosome, but their function remains unknown. Here, we demonstrate that Rtl8a and Rtl8b play important roles in the brain: their double knockout (DKO) mice not only exhibit reduced social responses and increased apathy-like behaviour, but also become obese from young adulthood, similar to patients with late Prader–Willi syndrome (PWS), a neurodevelopmental genomic imprinting disorder. …”

Endothelial-Ercc1 DNA repair deficiency provokes blood-brain barrier dysfunction
Published 2025-01-01“…Among other factors, DNA damage strongly promotes cellular aging, however, the role of genomic instability in brain endothelial cells (EC) and its potential effect on brain homeostasis is still largely unclear. We here investigated how endothelial aging impacts blood-brain barrier (BBB) function by using excision repair cross complementation group 1 (ERCC1)-deficient human brain ECs and an EC-specific Ercc1 knock out (EC-KO) mouse model. …”
