Modeling evolution and persistence of neurological viral diseases in wild populations
Published 2008-09-01“…Viral infections are one of the leading source of mortality worldwide. The great majority of them circulate and persist in wild reservoirs and periodically spill over into humans or domestic animals. In the wild reservoirs, the progression of disease is frequently quite different from that in spillover hosts. We propose a mathematical treatment of the dynamics of viral infections in wild mammals using models with alternative outcomes. We develop and analyze compartmental epizootic models assuming permanent or temporary immunity of the individuals surviving infections and apply them to rabies in bats.We identify parameter relations that support the existing patterns in the viral ecology and estimate those parameters that are unattainable through direct measurement. We also investigate how the duration of the acquired immunity affects the disease and population dynamics.…”

On the Singular Spectrum of the Radiation Operator for Multiple and Extended Observation Domains
Published 2013-01-01“…The problem of studying how spatial diversity impacts on the spectrum (singular values) of the radiation operator is addressed. This topic is of great importance because of its connection with the so-called number of degrees of freedom concept which in turn is a key parameter in inverse source problems as well as to the problem of transmitting information by waves from a source domain to an observation domain. …”

YOLOv3-A: a traffic sign detection network based on attention mechanism
Published 2021-01-01“…To solve the problem that the existing YOLOv3 algorithm had more false detections and missed detections for traffic sign detection task with small target problems and complex background, based on the YOLOv3, a channel attention method for target detection and a spatial attention method based on semantic segmentation guidance were proposed to form the YOLOv3-A (attention) algorithm. The detection features in the channel and spatial dimensions were recalibrated, allowing the network to focus and enhance the effective features, and suppress interference features, which greatly improved the detection performance.Experiments on the TT100K traffic sign data set show that the algorithm improves the detection performance of small targets, and the accuracy and recall rate of the YOLOv3 are improved by 1.9% and 2.8% respectively.…”
