Trends in the utilisation of maternal and child healthcare services from the public and private health sectors in India, 2005–2021: an analysis of cross-sectional survey data
Published 2025-02-01“…Market sustainability of key MCH indicators was assessed by level of MCH services and subsidisation.Participants 36 850, 190 898 and 176 843 ever-married women aged 15–49 years, 4440, 22 500 and 15 334 children under 5 years of age with diarrhoea before the survey, and 2552, 6960 and 6117 children with symptoms of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in NFHS 2005–2006, 2015–2016 and 2019–2021, respectively.Outcome measures The study used three maternal healthcare indicators: women had four or more antenatal care (ANC) visits, had institutional delivery, and received postnatal care (PNC); and two child healthcare indicators: care seeking for ARI and diarrhoea. Results In India, utilisation of maternal healthcare services increased over the last 15 years: four or more ANC visits increased from 37% to 58% and PNC of mothers increased from 33% to 78% between 2005–2006 and 2019–2021. …”

Compact Quantum Cascade Laser-Based Noninvasive Glucose Sensor Upgraded with Direct Comb Data-Mining
Published 2025-01-01“…Mid-infrared spectral analysis has long been recognized as the most accurate noninvasive blood glucose measurement method, yet no practical compact mid-infrared blood glucose sensor has ever passed the accuracy benchmark set by the USA Food and Drug Administration (FDA): to substitute for the finger-pricking glucometers in the market, a new sensor must first show that 95% of their glucose measurements have errors below 15% of these glucometers. …”

Can smoking duration alone replace pack-years to predict the risk of smoking-related oncogenic mutations in non-small cell lung cancer? A cross-sectional study in Japan
Published 2020-09-01“…Objective To investigate whether smoking duration alone can replace pack-years to predict the risk of oncogenic mutations in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).Design A cross-sectional study using the baseline dataset from the Japan Molecular Epidemiology for Lung Cancer Study.Setting Forty-three medical institutions nationwide in Japan.Participants From July 2012 to December 2013, 957 patients with newly diagnosed stage I–IIIB NSCLC who underwent surgery were enrolled, and molecular analyses were performed on 876 samples (from 441 ever-smokers and 435 never-smokers).Main outcomes measured We calculated the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) values using logistic regression to compare between the predictive values of smoking duration and pack-years for mutational frequencies in the v-Ki-ras2 Kirsten rat sarcoma (KRAS), tumour suppressor p53 (TP53), and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) genes and for cytosine-to-adenine base substitution (C>A).Results For predicting KRAS mutations, the AUC values for smoking duration and pack-years were 0.746 (95% CI 0.682 to 0.800) and 0.759 (95% CI 0.700 to 0.810), respectively (p=0.058). …”
