Through each other's eyes: initial results and protocol for the co-design of an observational measure of adolescent-parent interaction using first-person perspective
Published 2024-03-01“…BackgroundCurrent observational methods to understand adolescent-parent interaction are limited in terms of ecological and content validity. We outline initial results and a protocol for future work from a programme of work to: (1) establish a new method for data capture of adolescent-parent interaction at home using wearable cameras and; (2) develop a new relevant and comprehensive observational micro-coding scheme. …”

Preparedness, prevention and control related to zoonotic avian influenza
Published 2025-01-01“…The main drivers of mammalian adaptation include virus and host characteristics, and external factors increasing AIV exposure of mammals and humans to wild and domestic birds (e.g. human activities and ecological factors). Comprehensive surveillance of AIVs targeting adaptive mutations with whole genome sequencing in animals and humans is essential for early detection of zoonotic AIVs and efficient implementation of control measures. …”

Probing the Dual Role of Ca2+ in the <i>Allochromatium tepidum</i> LH1–RC Complex by Constructing and Analyzing Ca2+-Bound and Ca2+-Free LH1 Comple...
Published 2025-01-01“…The <i>Qy</i> absorption maximum of Ca2+-bound LH1 (α1/β1 and α1/β3) was at 894 nm, while that of Ca2+-free (α2/β1) was at 888 nm, indicating that Ca2+ imparts a <i>Qy</i> transition of 6 nm. Crucially for the ecological success of <i>Alc. tepidum</i>, Ca2+-bound LH1 complexes were more thermostable than Ca2+-free complexes, indicating that calcium plays at least two major roles in photosynthesis by <i>Alc. tepidum</i>—improving photocomplex stability and modifying its spectrum.…”

Catabolic pathway acquisition by rhizosphere bacteria readily enables growth with a root exudate component but does not affect root colonization
Published 2025-01-01“…These results suggest that the benefits of pathway acquisition may be small when measured under ecologically-relevant conditions. From an engineering perspective, efforts to alter microbial community composition in situ by manipulating catabolic pathways or nutrient availability will be challenging when gaining access to a new niche does not provide a benefit.…”
