The Anthropocene is shifting the paradigm of geosciences and science
Published 2022-12-01“…Noting that humans are affecting the Earth’s envelopes, with geosciences becoming inseparable from social sciences and humanities, and acknowledging the increasing use of the word Anthropocene, the authors of this paper explore the possibility of a scientific paradigm shift. (1) Since the 17th century, modern science has developed in a context of naturalist worlding that favors its hegemony over other modes of existence and its paradigm of a quest to define the laws of nature. (2) Various manifestations attest to the emergence of a paradigm of knowledge diversity and the unravelling of the naturalist worlding. (3) The current boom in participatory science is a sign of this paradigm shift: through the fundamental changes to the Earth System that refer to it, the Anthropocene forces science to move towards action and interact with a society involved in adapting to changes and concerned with the threats to its territory’s habitability.…”

Collective Optical, FTIR, and Photoluminescence Spectra of CeO2 and/or Sm2O3-Doped Na2O–ZnO–P2O5 Glasses
Published 2019-01-01“…The photoluminescence spectra (PL) of the single CeO2-doped and Sm2O3-doped glasses and even the mixed dopant sample reveal luminescence spectra after excitation which are characteristic of the rare-earth ions. The intensities for both excited or emitted peaks are found to increase with the increase of the rare-earth percent. …”

Chronological Classification of Ancient Mortars Employing Spectroscopy and Spectrometry Techniques: Sagunto (Valencia, Spain) Case
Published 2018-01-01“…Forty-two mortar samples, from two archaeological excavations located in Sagunto (Valencian Community, Spain), were analysed by both portable energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (pED-XRF) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to determine major and minor elements and traces including rare earth elements (REEs). Collected data were crossed with those previously obtained from Sagunto Castle mortars, and principal component analysis (PCA) was applied to discriminate the construction phases of the unearthed buildings. …”
