Characteristics of Soil Active Carbon Fractions and Carbon Pool Stability in Major Forest Types in Northern Daxing’an Mountains
Published 2024-12-01“…[Results] (1) From May to September, soil total organic carbon (TOC), highly active organic carbon (LOC-H) and moderately active organic carbon (LOC-M) of the four forest types showed a “single-peak” trend of change, and reached a peak in August, and the contents were higher in broad-leaved forests than in coniferous forests. (2) The utilisation rate of soil stability organic carbon (ER4) fluctuated between 72.33% and 85.11% from May to September, it was significantly higher than the utilisation rates of the other three types of active carbon, and dominated the soil carbon pool. (3) Soil carbon pool activity (CPA) fluctuated between 0.20 and 0.38, with P. davidiana forests>B. platyphylla forests>P. sylvestris var. mongolica forests >L. gmelinii forests; that of coniferous forests peaked in August, while that of broad-leaved forests were highest in May. (4) Soil active organic carbon content and carbon pool stability were subject to the combined effects of climatic factors and soil factors. …”

Enrichment of electrotrophic microorganisms from contrasting shallow-sea hydrothermal environments in bioelectrochemical reactors
Published 2025-02-01“…In reactors reproducing the Prony Bay hydrothermal conditions, known facultative methylotrophs, such as Sphingomonas and Methylobacterium, were dominant and appeared to consume formate (provided as carbon source) but no electrons from the cathode.ConclusionThese results provide new insights into the distribution and diversity of electrotrophs in shallow-sea hydrothermal vents and allow the identification of potential novel biocatalysts for Microbial Electrosynthesis whereby electricity and carbon dioxide are converted into value-added products.…”

Targets of influenza human T-cell response are mostly conserved in H5N1
Published 2025-02-01“…We further conclude that a significant fraction of the T-cell epitopes is conserved at a level associated with cross-reactivity between avian and seasonal sequences, and we further experimentally demonstrate extensive cross-reactivity in the most dominant T-cell epitopes curated in the IEDB. Based on these observations, and the overall similarity of the neuraminidase (NA) N1 subtype encoded in both HPAI and seasonal H1N1 influenza virus as well as cross-reactive group 1 HA stalk-reactive antibodies, we expect that a degree of pre-existing immunity is present in the general human population that could blunt the severity of human H5N1 infections.IMPORTANCEInfluenza A viruses (IAVs) cause pandemics that can result in millions of deaths. …”
