Gendering Labour Law in the Platform Economy: Supporting Women Crowdworkers through Motherhood by Al James

    Published 2024-12-01
“…So motivated, the second part of the article makes visible women’s shifting experiences of crowdworking as ‘independent’ self-employed freelancers with young children at different moments of the lifecourse, and the origins and outcomes of these women’s exclusion from labour law designed to protect women employees. Third, the analysis identifies a series of ‘digital agency practices’ and ‘tactical workarounds’ through which women crowdworkers are able to improve their everyday conditions of work and self-employment during pregnancy, maternity and beyond, in the absence of legal protection. …”

Dynamic adaptive offloading method based on WPT-MEC by Lin SU, Xiaochao DANG, Zhanjun HAO, Chunrui RU, Xu SHANG

    Published 2022-12-01
“…For the dynamic fading time-varying channel state information, a dynamic adaptive offloading (RLDO) method based on WPT-MEC was proposed to solve the task offloading and resource optimization problems for multiple users by combining wireless power transmission (WPT) technology and mobile edge computing (MEC).The wireless power transmission technology can provide energy to wireless end-user (WEU) and effectively alleviate the problem of limited energy supply from conventional batteries. To maximize the resource utilization, a wireless powered MEC network model was designed where the energy collected by the wireless end-user from the wireless access point (AP) was stored in a rechargeable battery, and then this energy was used for task computation or task offloading. The approach performed real-time offloading decisions through a fully connected deep neural networks (DNN) deployed in the MEC server.A fully binary offloading strategy was used for the offloading decision.Simulation results show that the computation rate of the method can still be maintained above 92% in a multi-user time-varying wireless channel-oriented environment.Compared with the basic method, it has great advantages in improving the calculation rate, reducing the delay and energy consumption, and effectively reduces computational complexity.…”

Inspection method for cable assembly quality based on AR virtual-real image attention mechanism by Ganlin ZHAO, Chang YU, Jianfu ZHANG, Jianxin YANG, Pingfa FENG, Qun SHEN

    Published 2021-09-01
“…Cable assembly in spacecraft occupies a large proportion in the final assembly process, and the quality of cable assembly directly affects the working performance of the whole product. The existing augmented reality-assisted cable assembly system lacks the ability to make real-time judgment and feedback on the assembly results, and cannot identify whether the currently assembled cable meets the quality requirements. In order to solve the above problems, a cable assembly quality inspection method based on AR virtual-real image attention mechanism was proposed.Critical areas in the captured images were located and detected by constructing virtual assist models to filter redundant image information.Based on YOLOv4-Tiny image detection model, the key node location of assembled cable was judged. The overlap of the laying path was obtained based on the method of calculating the average overlap of the neighborhood, and the bending radius of the cable was derived based on the method of camera inverse projection. Finally, an augmented reality-based cable assembly quality inspection system was developed using HoloLens2.The quality inspection was performed on the four designed cable assembly cases, and the feasibility and effectiveness of the method and system were experimentally verified.…”
