Diamonds and Emotions in the Minerals Gallery: Civilizing Emodities in the Age of Liberal Empire by Danielle Kinsey

    Published 2024-12-01
“…In general consumer culture, diamonds were understood as emotional commodities (emodities) that derived value from both marking and eliciting heightened emotions; knowing this, the minerals galleries trustees offered the public a place to engage with diamonds in a ‘sobering’ manner. Gallery designers encouraged visitors to trade their whimsically romantic feelings about diamonds with ‘interested,’ patriotic ones. …”

Evaluation of Water Resources Carrying Capacity in Jiangxi Based on System Dynamics Model by SONG Shiqiang, FENG Qian, WANG Pinggen, TANG Guohao, XIONG Xiahui, JI Yong

    Published 2023-01-01
“…To study the current situation of water resources carrying capacity and alleviate the water supply pressure in Jiangxi Province, this paper constructed an evaluation index system of water resources carrying capacity, taking into account the characteristics of water resources in Jiangxi Province.Further,a system dynamics model of water resources carrying capacity was built with historical data, and four development scenarios were designed, under which the variations of various index parameters were obtained through model simulation. The weight of each index was determined by the analytic hierarchy process, and the change of water resources carrying capacity was calculated under each scenario. The following findings are obtained.① Under the current development scenario, the water resources carrying capacity of Jiangxi Province is in a state of slightly overloading.② Under the rapid development scenario, the overload of the water resources carrying capacity in Jiangxi Province becomes more serious.③ Under the water saving & pollution control and comprehensive development scenarios, the water resources carrying capacity tend to be both improved, and the improvement degree is higher under the latter scenario. The comprehensive development scenario is found to be the optimal development scenario which accords with the sustainable development of Jiangxi Province. This study can provide reference and an evaluation basis for water resources management planning in Jiangxi Province.…”

Deep reinforcement learning based task allocation mechanism for intelligent inspection in energy Internet by Siya XU, Yifei XING, Shaoyong GUO, Chao YANG, Xuesong QIU, Luoming MENG

    Published 2021-05-01
“…In order to reduce the cost and improve efficiency of power line inspection, UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle), which use mobile edge computing technology to access and process service data, are used to inspect power lines in the energy internet. However, due to the dynamic changes of UAV data transmission demand and geographical location, the edge server load will be unbalanced, which causes higher service processing delay and network energy consumption. Thus, an intelligent inspection task allocation mechanism for energy internet based on deep reinforcement learning was proposed.First, a two-layer edge network task offloading model was established to archive joint optimization of multi-objectives, such as delay and energy consumption. It was designed by comprehensively considering the route of UAV and edge nodes, different demands of services and limited service capabilities of edge nodes.Furthermore, based on Lyapunov optimization theory and dual-time-scaled mechanism, proximal policy optimization algorithm based deep reinforcement learning was used to solve the connection relationship and offloading strategy of edge servers between fixed edge sink layer and mobile edge access layer. The simulation results show that, the proposed mechanism can reduce the service request delay and system energy consumption while ensuring the stability of system.…”
