Improving energy efficiency and network performance in IaaS cloud with virtual machine placement
Published 2014-01-01“…The existing virtual machine(VM) placement schemes mostly reduce energy consumption by optimizing utilization of physical server or network element. However, the aggressive consolidation of these resources may lead to network performance degradation. In view of this,a VM placement scheme was proposed to achieve two objectives. One is to minimize the number of activating physical machines and network elements to reduce the energy consumption, and the other is to minimize the maximum link utilization to improve the network performance. This scheme is able to reduce the energy consumption caused by physical servers and network equipment while optimizing the network performance, making a trade off between energy efficiency and network performance.A novel two-stage heuristic algorithm for a solution was designed.Firstly, the hierarchical clustering algorithm based on minimum cut and best fit algorithm was used to optimize energy efficiency, and then, local search algorithm was used to minimize the maximum link utilization. The simulations show that this solution achieves good results.…”

Experimental Study on Dewatering of Hydraulic Silts by Horizontal Electroosmosis Combined with Surcharge Preloading
Published 2021-01-01“…A large amount of dredging silt will be produced in the urban water environment treatment project. With high water content and large volume, the silt will occupy a lot of land resources after being dumped in the storage yard directly. This paper designs a model test for the treatment of hydraulic silts by the horizontal electroosmosis method, performs the dewatering of hydraulic silts through the horizontal electroosmosis combined with surcharge preloading, verifies the feasibility and advantages of horizontal electroosmosis for silt dewatering. The test results show that:The upper load can limit the crack width of silt. The larger the upper load is,the smaller the crack width of silt is,the bigger the silt settlement is,the larger the silt displacement is,and the lower the moisture content is.The upper load can delay the attenuation of electric flow and the reduction of the effective electric potential, which is conducive to the dewatering and consolidation of silt.At the final stage of electroosmosis, the energy consumption is high and the dewatering is small. Therefore,in practical application, electroosmosis should be stopped before this stage.…”

Artificial noise aided secure beamforming for multi-antenna relay systems
Published 2014-11-01“…In the amplify-and-forward (AF) relay systems, the confidential information forwarded by the relay can be intercepted by the eavesdroppers. For guaranteeing the secure communications,an artificial noise aided secure beamforming method is proposed. The goal is to maximize the secrecy rate of the system by jointly designing the beamforming matrix and the artificial noise (AN) covariance matrix at the relay subject to the total power and the per-antenna power constraints. This non-convex secrecy rate maximization (SRM) problem can be recast as a two-level optimization problem. The outer part can be solved by performing a one-dimensional search, and the inner part can be handled by the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) technique and interior-point methods. It is shown that there always exists a rank-one optimal solution for the SDR problem,i.e.…”

QoS preference-aware replica selection strategy in cloud computing
Published 2011-01-01“…A QoS preference-aware replica selection strategy for a kind of users with individual QoS sensitivity(IQS) constraints in cloud computing datacenters was put forward in advance.According to the QoS requirements of data ser-vices from IQS users,a novel three-dimensional QoS model of replica selection was introduced, and a QoS prefer-ence-aware algorithm based on analytic hierarchy process(AHP) named QoPA was proposed to deal with the IQS con-straints.In order to evaluate the replica sites in datacenters and provide the best of them to the IQS users,an algorithm for replica selection based on fuzzy comprehensive evaluation termed FCERS was designed and implemented. Results of experiments show that the FCERS can serve the various IQS users in cloud computing very well by providing reason-able replica strategies effectively.…”
