The Determinants of Pain Revisited: Coordinates in Sensory Space by Kenneth L Casey, Jürgen Lorenz

    Published 2000-01-01
“…This led to the publication of a book chapter that would someday be referred to by some as 'the classical view' of pain mechanisms. However, this paper presented some conceptual problems for research on pain mechanisms by using the term 'motivational-affective' to define a determinant of pain. …”

An Error Tolerated Congestion Control Algorithm Based on Packet Loss Rate Measurement in Deep Space Communication Network by Junrong Yan, Yulong Lu, Peng Pan

    Published 2015-11-01
“…Congestion control algorithms of TCP protocol previously used in space communications are mostly based on TCP Vegas algorithm. They always require accurately measurement of RTT,but it's very difficult to achieve in deep space communication networks which have very long and variable delay channel characteristics. An errors tolerated congestion control algorithm is proposed based on packet loss rate measurement. The algorithm sends data in the form of data blocks and gives an errors tolerated degree based on the history data.It measures the congestion state based on the current packet loss rate measurement,so it can achieve a smaller overhead and higher transmission efficiency. In addition, the usage of mathematical modeling methods simplifies the networks and simulates the real network traffic. The mentioned algorithm is compared with the classical congestion control algorithm.Analysis and simulation prove that thethroughput of improved algorithm is 34 percent better than Tahoe and 22 percent better than Reno,so it gets a better performance.…”

Youth climate activism in the United States by Melanie MEUNIER

    Published 2021-06-01
“…Realizing, too, that many Congress members lack the political will to effect change, an increasing number of passionate youth leaders have initiated movements to raise awareness about the urgency of acting to mitigate the worst effects of climate change. Ranging from classic street protests to electoral canvassing to litigation, their actions may be characterized in terms of “disruptive, dutiful or dangerous dissent” (O’Brien et al). …”

Construction of quantum BCH code based on cyclotomic coset by Lijuan XING, Zhuo LI

    Published 2021-10-01
“…Quantum-error-correcting code can overcome quantum decoherence efficiently, which is the key technology to realize quantum computers.A series of quantum BCH code was proposed based on classical codes.First, a general way of well-chosen cyclotomic coset was introduced.A sufficient condition was given to calculate the number of elements in cyclotomic coset. Then, a series of quantum BCH (Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem) code over finite field Fq was constructed by CSS (Calderbank-Shor-Steane) construction and Steane construction. The results were extended to finite field Fq2 with Hermitian construction.Compared with the results in literature, the range of introduced cyclotomic coset is more wide, and the new quantum BCH code has higher dimensions and better lower bounds on minimum distances.Furthermore, a family of quantum maximum distance separable (quantum MDS) code over any finite fields is constructed.…”
