Accuracy of administrative data for surveillance of healthcare-associated infections: a systematic review by Karel G M Moons, Marc J M Bonten, Maaike S M van Mourik, Pleun Joppe van Duijn, Grace M Lee

    Published 2015-08-01
“…Observed sensitivity and positive predictive values of administrative data algorithms for HAI detection were very heterogeneous and generally modest at best, both for within-hospital algorithms and for formal quality indicators; accuracy was particularly poor for the identification of device-associated HAI such as central line associated bloodstream infections. The large heterogeneity in study designs across the included studies precluded formal calculation of summary diagnostic accuracy estimates in most instances. Conclusions Administrative data had limited and highly variable accuracy for the detection of HAI, and their judicious use for internal surveillance efforts and external quality assessment is recommended. …”

Diacylglycerol kinase δ is required for skeletal muscle development and regeneration by Hiromichi Sakai, Chiaki Murakami, Mayumi Takechi, Takeshi Urano, Fumio Sakane

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Notably, skeletal muscle injury induced by a cardiotoxin highly up‐regulated DGKδ protein expression, and the DGKδ deficiency significantly reduced the thickness of myofibers, the expression levels of myogenic differentiation markers such as embryonic myosin heavy chain and myogenin, and the number of newly formed myofibers containing multiple central nuclei during muscle regeneration. DGKδ was strongly expressed in myogenin‐positive satellite cells around the injured myofibers and centronucleated myofibers. …”

Comparative study of Baduanjin and brisk walking on balance and stability in older adults by Ya-Guang Yu, Jun Zhang, Lin Wang, Dai-Feng Yu, Gong-Bing Shan, Xiao Fu

    Published 2025-03-01
“…Results: (1) For the eyes-open two-legged standing posture, the center of pressure (COP) was more centralized in the Baduanjin group; the swaying range of the body, forward and backward displacement, and left and right displacement among the elderly individuals in this group were significantly lower than those of the other two groups. (2) In the tests for two-legged standing, one-legged standing, and tandem feet stance, the elderly in the Baduanjin group had significantly lower swaying trajectory of the center of gravity, body swaying ellipse area, and maximum vibration parameters than those in the brisk walking and control groups. (3) The 2nd pose of Baduanjin, which involves a considerable amount of knee bending and semi-squatting exercises for the lower limbs, proved to be beneficial for the lower limb joints and body balance among the elderly. …”
