Were sanctuary wells in Roman Gaul intentionally contaminated using animal carcasses (3rd–4th c. AD)?
Published 2018-12-01“…Alongside these wild species, the paper also considers the role of domestic animals (e.g., ox, pig, dog and cat) found in the assemblages. It appears that the principal objective of these deposits was to render the structure unsuitable and to prevent any subsequent use by contaminating the wells and making the water inaccessible and impure.…”

The Regulatory Effect of Se-Cd Interaction on Tea Plants (<i>Camellia sinensis</i> (L.) O. Kuntze) Under Cadmium Stress
Published 2025-01-01“…The findings are as follows: (1) Cd stress notably elevated the electrical conductivity, MDA content, and proline content of tea plants, whereas the Cd + Se1 treatment significantly reduced the MDA and proline content under Cd stress; (2) the Cd stress treatment significantly increased the content of peroxides in the tea tree leaves and significantly decreased the activities of four antioxidant enzymes, SOD, POD, CAT, and Apx; the Cd + Se treatment significantly reduced the peroxide content in tea trees under cadmium stress and significantly increased the activities of SOD, POD, CAT, and Apx; (3) the Cd stress treatment significantly increased the values of certain chlorophyll fluorescence parameters and had no significant impact on the distribution of light energy, whereas the Cd + Se treatment significantly elevated the values of some chlorophyll fluorescence parameters and induced an uneven distribution of light energy; (4) the order of accumulation of Cd in different organs of the tea plants was as follows: root > stem > leaf, and the Cd + Se treatment significantly reduced the Cd content in various organs under Cd stress. …”

In vivo and in silico study of europinidin against streptozotocin-isoproterenol-induced myocardial damage via alteration of hs-CRP/CPK-MB/Caspase-3/Bcl-2 pathways
Published 2025-01-01“…It improved serum insulin, blood lipid profile and reduced inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-α, IL-β), oxidative stress and increased antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT and GSH). Europinidin also protected renal, hepatic functions and restored apoptosis markers (increased Bcl-2, decreased caspase-3 levels). …”

Putative regulatory functions of SNPs associated with bronchial asthma, arterial hypertension and their comorbid phenotype
Published 2022-01-01“…The risk of developing a comorbid phenotype of AD and AH is associated with the A allele of rs7038716 and the T allele of rs7025144 of the TLR4/AL160272.2 genes, the A allele of rs1010461 of the ANG gene and the C allele of rs2022318 of the ABTB2/CAT genes. Variants rs7038716 and rs7025144 can change the expression levels of the TLR4 gene in blood cells, while rs1010461 and rs2022318 influence the expression levels of the ANG and RNASE4 genes as well as the CAT and ABTB2 genes in blood cells, lungs/vessels/heart.…”
