A daily rhythm of cell proliferation in a songbird brain
Published 2025-02-01“…Here, we studied whether proliferation and apoptosis exhibit a daily rhythm in the brain of the diurnal songbird zebra finch (Taeniopygia guttata) and whether the cell proliferation peaks during the dark phase of the day, as in rodents. We injected the birds with the cell proliferation marker 5-ethynyl-2´-deoxyuridine (EdU; thymidine analog), quantified the number of dividing cells in the neurogenic ventricular zone (VZ), and measured mRNA expression of clock genes as well as genes indicating cell proliferation or apoptosis. …”

Mechanical problem solving by plush-crested jays: are tools special after all?
Published 2024-12-01“…Abstract Tool use is taxonomically associated with high behavioural flexibility and innovativeness, and its prevalence is greater in primates and some bird species. This association, however, is not known to be causally determinant of tool-related competence since flexibility and innovativeness are often observed in the absence of tool use and vice versa. …”

MORPHOFUNCTIONAL EVALUATION OF THYMUS IN PEKIN DUCK DURING DIETARY INCORPORATION OF ORGANIC SELENIUM FEED ADDITIVE DAFS-25k
Published 2018-10-01“…From the age of 90 days signs of age involution in the organ were observed, and in the experimental group these processes were going more physiologically in accordance with the age of the birds. Introduction of the organic and selenium additive DAFS-25k in the diet of ducklings at a dose of 1.3 mg/kg of feed promoted the increase of the functional activity of the thymus that leveled the development of accidental involution and optimization of age involution.…”

Relationship between in ovo feeding and eggshell temperature of breeder eggs during incubation
Published 2025-02-01“…The technique, when properly implemented, maximizes nutrient absorption and improves the economic traits of growing birds and their end products. However, several studies have also reported negative effects of the technique on the temperature of the eggshell indicating its significant effect on embryonic development, eggs’ hatching ability, and the quality and growth of chicks. …”
