Shepherding parents to prepare for end-of-life decision-making: a critical phenomenological study of the communication approach of paediatricians caring for children with life-limi...
Published 2023-12-01“…This study aims to explore how paediatricians prepare parents for end-of-life decision-making for a child with a life-limiting condition using clinical simulation.Design Individual, semistructured, post-simulation qualitative interviews of paediatricians and parent-actors.Setting Acute intensive and long-term outpatient paediatric care in Victoria, Australia.Participants 18 purposively sampled paediatricians who treat children with life-limiting conditions and the two parent-actors involved in all simulations. Paediatricians were excluded if they assisted in the study design, worked within specialist palliative care teams or did not provide clinical care outside the neonatal period. Results Three key themes in a preparatory process (termed ‘shepherding’) were identified: (1) paediatricians aim to lead parents along a pathway to future end-of-life decisions, (2) paediatricians prefer to control the pace of these discussions and (3) paediatricians recognise they need to have courage to face risk with this preparation. …”

Two-Step Deep Learning Approach for Estimating Vegetation Backscatter: A Case Study of Soybean Fields
Published 2024-12-01“…Extensive experiments, conducted on both simulated data and in situ measurements, revealed that the proposed two-step TL-based approach yields a significantly better and more robust performance than SS-RTM and other DL schemes, indicating the feasibility of such an approach in estimating vegetation backscatters. All these outcomes provide a new path for addressing complex microwave scattering problems.…”

Exposure to PM2.5 and its components leads to obesity: role of socioeconomic status
Published 2025-01-01“…For instance, the HRs and 95% CIs for overweight/obesity with each quartile increase in SO4 2− concentration were 1.338 (1.207–1.484), 1.311 (1.121–1.533), and 2.224 (1.823, 2.714) at low, medium, and high SES levels, respectively (all P < 0.05). An interaction between air pollutants and SES was observed in the context of obesity risk, with RERIs of 0.723 (0.473–0.973) and 0.562 (0.268–0.856) for medium-high SES levels and high NO3 − exposure, respectively (both P < 0.05). …”

Spatial-temporal evolution of habitat quality in tropical monsoon climate region based on “pattern–process–quality” – a case study of Cambodia
Published 2025-02-01“…The results show that (1) during 2000–2022, forest in Cambodia covered a wide range, showing a landscape pattern mainly distributed in the east and west. (2) The degree of fragmentation of impervious landscape pattern increased gradually from 2000 to 2022, indicating that it was seriously affected by human activities and natural factors, and with the increase in elevation and slope, the area of various types converted to impervious decreased. (3) During 2000–2022, high habitat quality areas were concentrated in Tonle SAP Lake in the east, southwest, and central part of Cambodia, while low habitat quality areas were concentrated in the central part. (4) Natural factors, socio-economic factors, policies, and regulations all have an impact on the change in land use pattern and habitat quality in Cambodia.…”
