description In this study, I explore on the causes of dropouts among senior secondary school girls and the implications for the educational system in Irepodun, Kwara State, Nigeria. The instrumentation method used for collecting data from the schools selected was a structured questionnaire, and the chi-squared statistical method was used for data analysis. The study’s outcome indicates a significant relationship between the sociocultural background of female students, parental attitudes toward education, religious beliefs, government policy on education, and dropout among girls. Therefore, the study recommends that the government award scholarships to encourage girls’ education, curriculum planners should be counselled on the need to be gender-friendly in planning the school curriculum, and parents should avoid distracting activities that can keep girls away from school.
