Summary: | The aim of this article is to examine the meaning of outdoor education by drawing up a typology of the 26 interventions carried out over more than four years as part of the “Lieux et enjeux” research seminar at the Centre de recherche sur l’habitat (UMR-LAVUE). As an experimental form of teaching in and through research, with a view to professionalization, the outside classroom walls approach refers to shared references that are the subject of a new topicality. The hors les murs (“outside the walls”) could be both material (those of the institution) and immaterial (between students and other players, including teachers). Being ‘outside the walls’ would imply shifts in both geographical terms and in the participants' stance. Thus, forms of knowledge (doing and being) that are learned there would be specific. These comprise some of the hypotheses that this article aims to explore, with a view to contributing to reflections on teaching in schools of architecture, in particular, and in higher education more generally. |
