description Sacred and natural sites have a social, cultural and spiritual importance for the Jola people in Lower Casamance. Moreover, they have a vital role for the preservation of natural resources and the biodiversity in general and then, undoubtedly present an ecological interest. In the Bliss- Kassa and in the Community Conserved Area of Mangagoulack, SNS are still very present. The Jola people have very close relations with nature, some of which elements are considered as parts and parcel of their society. Some sacred natural sites were included in this research with a view to a better understanding of their functioning, but also to shed light on how they contribute to the lasting preservation of marine and coastal resources. This paper highlights the role of sacred and natural sites for the preservation of natural, sea and coastal resources in the past and today, the traditional management and preservation methods of those sites, their state of conservation and the threats they are facing.
