| Summary: | The aim of this contribution is to highlight the steps that must be taken to appreciate the street mechanics' skilled view of repairs. Held in the French department of Seine-Saint-Denis, the ethnographic immersion in the social world of people repairing vehicles in the open air offered the researcher the opportunity of learning their work through the choice of a direct commitment. Attention to the body, sensoriality, tools and relationships underlines the specificities of street mechanics' repairs. They present themselves as experts and they propose different services to clients by taking advantage of each material and relational resource at their disposal. |
