| Summary: | This article endeavours to understand the condition of the “youth” in Morocco, in the particular context of disadvantaged populations. Aged between 20 and 30, the men who are the subject of this study are characterised as “youths” because they are still unmarried, underemployed, and living with their parents. It is their own point of view on their “condition” that is presented in this article. These young men give meaning to their situation by using the notions duruf (conditions) and dabbar (resourcefulness) in the context of the coastal town of Larache, the hub of illegal migration to Spain. This temptation to adventure and its dangers in fact constitutes the ultimate goal for asserting one’s virility and finally building oneself a future (mustaqbal) that makes it possible to become a man. |
