Description
Summary:ABSTRACT Early releases of Merriam's turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo merriami) in Nebraska in typical habitat, areas characterized by native ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa), were highly successful. Releases of 93 Merriam's turkeys in non‐typical habitat, areas of primarily deciduous timber, resulted in apparent establishment at 7 or 8 of 11 release sites. Approximately 90 birds have been taken from these areas by hunters, and 18 turkeys were removed by trapping.
