Description
Summary:The article is devoted to the book by Anatoly Anatolyevich Vaneev (1922– 1985), a disciple and follower of Lev Platonovich Karsavin (1882–1952), which tells about the last stage of the life of this significant Orthodox thinker. The book is often mistakenly perceived as a memoir, which categorically does not coincide with the author’s intention and makes it difficult to understand the proposed ideas. Vaneev set himself the task of creating a philosophical portrait of his teacher, whom he considered the standard personality of an Orthodox believer and thinker. He chose the relationship of religious faith and unbelief as the central ideological trigger, offering a fundamentally new interpretation for atheism as different from the traditional one, when atheism is understood as the sin of little faith or the result of some activity of anti-Christian dark powers. All the characters appear in A. A. Vaneev’s book both as real people and as bearers of contradictory types of religiosity. Their biographies, restored by the author of the article during the research study, are designed to help readers better understand both Lev Karsavin and Anatoly Vaneev. In addition, the author of the article is convinced that by their sufferings for faith and loyalty to Christ, many of those people deserved our memory and our prayers, for which, no less than for scientific purposes, the work has been carried out to establish their real names and destinies.
