Description
Summary:The dramatic production of Agustín Moreto includes numerous motifs and plots that were already present in previous theater, especially in that of Lope de Vega. However, he was not the only golden poet he took as a reference, because he also consulted works by authors such as Tirso de Molina, Guillén de Castro, Andrés de Claramonte or Antonio Mira de Amescua, among others. This paper presents a recasting of Moreto’s work El mejor amigo, el rey, which starts from a text by Mira de Amescua, Cautela contra cautela. Throughout the article, the most outstanding similarities and differences between both comedies will be examined in order to analyse Moreto’s way of working and to verify whether he implements with other golden playwrights the same series of patterns detected in the rewriting of texts by Lope de Vega.
