Description
Summary:This paper provides an analysis of the impediments to the implementation of sustainable mobility in Canadian metropolises in light of a case study of Canada’s National Capital Region, the interprovincial city-region of Ottawa-Gatineau. It shows that transport—land use integration, considered necessary for the implementation of this new approach, is extremely difficult to achieve in metropolitan areas, regardless of their level of institutional fragmentation. In the era of sustainable development, these results suggest to reassess the planning processes in light of the context of metropolitanization and complexification of metropolitan governance.
