| Summary: | Implementation of the provisions of ecosystem approaches to water-related
activities and specific actions concerning ecological norms setting for provision sustainable functioning of ecosystems, preservation of biological diversity and prevention of negative impact upon water bodies contemplates the use of the methods of integral assessment of actual status of a watercourse or a water body. Ecological normalization should be based, fi rst, on integrated
indicators that the most adequately reflect actual status of a water body ecosystem in case many factors’ influence. Nowadays, in Russia the status assessment and, consequently, normalization of economic activities’ impact upon water bodies is based on the system of chemical substances
MPC in the water bodies’ water that is valid for the whole territory of the country. In fact, there is no ecological normalization. Considering the MPC list the only base for assessment of a water body status often leads in consequences (in the process of ecological normalizing) to the outcomes that could be hardly analyzed in terms of common sense (in particular, for instance, it is proposed to discharge waste waters to watercourses with concentrations considerably lower than MPCs themselves). In this connection, a question of expediency and effectiveness of the MPC system practice applied in Russia for assessment of the water bodies’ status in the process of economic activities arises. |
