Summary:As a contemporary author of the period of the First Crusade, the Latin historian Albert of Aachen wrote the Historia, the most detailed description of the establishment of Latin states in the East, in particular about the first Crusader to rule Jerusalem, Godefroi de Bouillon (1099-1100). The Historia is also a unique work about the period of Godefroi’s successor, the King Baldwin I of Jerusalem (1100-1118) and contains many unique and important details not found in any other source. This article will evaluate the Historia Hierosolymitanae expeditionis in terms of its source value.
