Summary:A prospective, case control and cross sectional study was undertaken to find out the effect on self concept of children due to Nephrotic syndrome. A total of ninety children (60 patients with varying degree of nephrotic syndrome and 30 controls), aged between 8 to 18 years were assessed. Tools: a tool which consisted of demographic and select variables profile and other is a standardized Piers Harris children's self concept scale. Informed consent was obtained from the patients and parents. Ethical clearance was obtained from ethics committee of study setting. Results: Both the patients and controls had ‘high’ and ‘very high’ self concept. None of the subjects had ‘low’ or ‘moderate’ self concept. Patients having less severe form of nephrotic syndrome were more happy and satisfied than the patients having more severe form of nephrotic syndrome although the global self concept score was same in both the groups.
