Description
Summary:The beach is an emblematic place of the tourist system. This area plays an important role in protection and coastal management issues. It is also an unusual space, with no permanent establishment installation and which is especially interesting for analyzing the spatial dimension of social dynamics. This article introduces an agent-based model that simulates beach filling as a space for tourism and recreation. The REMEPP model (which stands for REMplissage de l’Espace de Pratique Plage) is based on empirical data and studies collected on French Atlantic coast beaches since 2008. The resulting model allows to simulate realistic spatial distribution and diffusion processes of beach users, depending on infrastructure management scenarios. This modeling work contributes to the research on occupation overflow, discomfort, and comfort, within the research field of attendance and land use.
