description This is a phenomenographic study with the objective of mapping the variations in a group of managers’ conceptions about the meaning of Fair Play, in order to identify the competencies associated with these con ceptions. The purpose was to understand the experience of these actors so as to meet the demands of an organization that establishes Fair Play as a general guideline. As its main results, the research revealed three central ways of conceiving of Fair Play: as a rule, as transparency and as justice. The managers’ competencies represent the materialization of these conceptions. The study reinforces that learning about the differences in conceptions can be a path towards achieving more assertive practices for developing Fair Play competencies.
